Numerical Growth - A Sign of Blessing?

Many church leaders and ministries today measure God's blessing by numerical growth. However, numerical growth was not guaranteed to the prophets of the Hebrew Bible or the apostles of the New Testament. If numerical growth is a sign of divine favor, then this should also be true for many cults. Now, this is not to say that numerical growth is wrong. What is wrong is the assumption that numerical growth in and of itself is a sign of blessing. A more solid indicator of blessing is the small group of believers who grow in their knowledge of the Lord.
